Easts Together – August Highlights 2024

The Easts Group and Sydney Roosters have participated in several community activations across August, with highlights below:

  • July 20: Anthony Minichiello and Mitchell Aubusson visited the Alton Roosters, Victoria’s largest community rugby league club with over 600 players and 200 coaches, officials, and volunteers. They presented signed NRL and NRLW jerseys and hosted the club’s President at the Storm vs. Roosters match.
  • Rounds 2 and 3 of the NRLW: We engaged 21 schools and 3 local Indigenous organizations, hosting them at matches at Allianz and Gosford, with crowds of 3,000 and 2,000, respectively.
  • August 2: We hosted around 30 guests from the Fremantle Roosters in Perth at our match against the Dolphins, gifting them signed NRL and NRLW jerseys to support their fundraising efforts.
  • August 3: We submitted a strong nomination for Millie Elliott as our Veronica White Medal nominee for the NRL Women of the Year Awards, with support from Gotcha4Life and the Mark Hughes Foundation. Millie is a top four finalist, and the winner will be announced at the Dally M Awards Night on 2 October.
  • August 5: We visited the Girls and Boys Brigade in Surry Hills, a charity that has provided a safe space for children and youth since 1882. They praised Dylan Napa for his ongoing support of their programs.
  • August 12: NRL GDO staff delivered two school programs at local primary schools in the Eastern Suburbs, reaching over 200 kids.
  • August 12: We successfully hosted a media launch event with the Premier and dignitaries from eight Emergency Service Organisations in NSW as part of the inaugural Emergency Services Event on September 1.
  • August 14: NRLW players supported the Operation Crayweed project, which is pioneering a world-first scientific method to rewild Sydney’s reefs and beaches, as part of our sustainability efforts.
  • August 20: KARI presented a cultural awareness workshop to 50 staff members across both Admin and Football.

  • September 4:  Roosters staff collaborated with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and artist Tavita Mose to create a special multicultural shirt that celebrates our group’s rich and diverse cultures across our club. Jared and Tavita first met in 2023 to discuss the concept, and Tavita proudly presented the warm-up t-shirt to both the NRL and NRLW squads. The incredible design represents many cultures, including Māori, Cook Islander, Tongan, Samoan, Fijian, Irish, Italian, and Aboriginal. Players wore the t-shirt at training to celebrate the diversity that enriches our club.

  • September 8: Successful junior league grand final day for Eastern Suburbs Clubs at Leichhardt Oval, with 4 wins from 4 grand finalists, each club winning a GF as follows: Paddo U11 & U15’s, Cros U17’s and Bondi Opens. Community and Junior League Coordinator Tatum Sinclair Harris and Board Chair Bob Tate have done an excellent job this season.
