Vale Ken Shine

Easts is saddened to learn of the passing of former staff member Ken Shine.

Ken joined Eastern Suburbs Leagues Club in 2016 and quickly became a familiar and much-loved face around the Club. In his role as Club Attendant and Guest Relations Officer, Ken was often one of the first people to greet members and guests, always doing so with a warm smile and friendly nature.

Popular with both Members and staff, Ken had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether it was rugby league, cricket or the latest sporting results from the weekend, Ken was always keen for a chat and enjoyed sharing stories from his many years involved in sport.

Ken’s sporting background was extensive, including a long association with rugby league and cricket. His rugby league journey included time as Head Coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs — something that was quickly forgiven by everyone at Easts.

More importantly, Ken will be remembered as a kind, caring and genuine gentleman who made a positive impression on so many people during his time with the Club.

On behalf of the Board, management, staff and members of Easts, we extend our sincere condolences to Ken’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Vale Ken Shine.
